Why are Human Hair Wigs SO Expensive?

If you're anything like me, you’ve tried all the lotions and potions to cure your hair loss. You've spent hours cooking up a witches' brew of apple cider vinegar and rosemary oil. Slathering the concution onto your sensitive scalp and making a wish to the hair gods that it will all grow back. And maybe... now you're considering more expensive options like PRP injections or laser cap therapy.

Look, real talk. Although these remedies may work for some, most people with genetic forms of hair loss usually don’t find them that effective. Honestly, all these ‘solutions’ made me feel worse about my hair loss, rather than better. I was so consumed by finding a 'cure' that my hair loss was all I could think about. There was a time when I felt like there was no solution (trust me, I spent $2500 on PRP Injections, and NOTHING changed 😂)...

Fear not, hair queen, we have the answer! Human hair toppers and wigs are the ONLY hair loss solution that works 100% of the time and doesn’t require spending your weekends making potions in your kitchen. But I know what you're thinking... these toppers and wigs are NOT cheap. Our pieces are definitely an investment and actually end up being cheaper than some treatments which require lifelong commitments (e.g. Minoxidil). But, let me explain more.

Are wigs and toppers really worth it? For me, it was a no brainer. I had already spent upwards of 10k (eeek! I can't believe it either), on trying to 'cure' my hair loss. So, wearing toppers and wigs has actually saved me money. For me, being able to pop my topper on and forget about my hair loss is totally worth the price.

But Kim... there's so many cheaper options out there? Yes, there is. Maybe you’re considering synthetic hair as a more ‘budget friendly’ option. For some, synthetic is the perfect option. But what people don't tell you about synthetic hair pieces is they only last 3-6 months before they start shedding or become knotty. Many people end up purchasing 2-4 synthetic pieces a year. Why not spend the SAME amount of money on REAL human hair?

You also can’t have a synthetic piece coloured to get those dimensional, realistic colours to match your bio hair. What is the point if you can’t make your dream hair, YOU? 😯 Human hair pieces are much more versatile. You can use your blow dryer, straightener, or curling wand without creating a melted mess... We have loads of Lusta videos that you can flick through for inspo!

Does that mean you should never buy a synthetic piece? Absolutely not! It’s about what makes sense for YOU. If investing in human hair suits your needs, go for it. But if you prefer synthetic, that’s totally great too. We support any decision that makes you feel confident and yourself 🥰

So now that we’ve chatted about synthetic pieces, the next question is... Are all human hair wigs created equal? I'm sorry to break it to you, but there's a reason that 'human hair' piece is super cheap. If a ‘human hair’ piece has a price that seems too good to be true, it probably is. Generally, the knots will not be bleached (this means you’ll be able to see where the hair is tied onto the cap) and the hair will also be very thin. And I don't mean to scare you but... if you’re purchasing a wig that isn’t ‘Remy Hair’, there’s a strong possibility you may be wearing... are you ready for it?? DRAIN HAIR! Eeek...

Another factor to consider is if a piece is only $100, how much of that is going to the worker who spent so much time carefully sewing your piece by hand? Did you know our pieces take over 100 hours to sew? That's not to mention the qualified hair stylists who spent hours colouring and cutting the piece to make it perfect for you. We're passionate about making sure everyone involved in the process is paid a fair wage.

High quality, human hair toppers and wigs definitely do come with a higher price tag than synthetic and lower quality pieces. It's important to consider that if a price seems way too low, something is going to suffer; the quality of the piece or the people who made it. Lusta toppers and wigs are an investment that's going to last you years of daily wear. Wearing hair gives you the opportunity to ditch all the expensive treatments and take back some of the power hair loss has taken from you.
