Where are you from?
Melbourne, Australia
When did you start experiencing hair loss? What has your experience been since then?
I noticed it in my early 20s and after a scalp biopsy, the dermatologist delivered the formal diagnosis (androgenic alopecia) at 24.
Who is the first person you told about your hair? How did it go?
My husband has been the one I’ve confided in throughout my hair loss journey. He’s been incredibly supportive and was my main hype person when it came to making that first alternative hair purchase and buzzing my hair for the first time!
How do you describe your hair loss?
In its early stages it was incredibly isolating. I dealt with it on my own, searching for and obsessing over cures and being overwhelmingly let down in the process. I was so self-conscious and can recall many awkward exchanges that left me questioning “why me?” Ultimately, I declined or avoided social invitations because it caused so much emotional pain. I’d spend so long trying to make my hair look ‘acceptable’ and would leave the house feeling defeated every time. No hair fibre or tinted dry shampoo could help me in the end. I spent almost 10 years struggling with my appearance and much of my identity before diving into the world of alternative hair.
How did you find out about Lusta?
I discovered Lusta online via Instagram and I remember scrolling through so many posts and being awestruck by the beautiful hair options!
What do you love about wearing hair?
It’s given me back my confidence and the identity I thought I’d lost before discovering alternative hair.
How has Lusta been part of your hair journey?
I purchased my first Lusta wig a year ago and I now have 3 Lusta pieces! I got to meet Holly, Kim and Georgia when they visited Melbourne last year and I dream of doing a road trip to ‘Radelaide’ so I can stop by Lusta HQ in the future. Lusta represent so much more than just a company that provide the quality goods – they are an incredibly supportive team, dedicated to changing the lives of so many. Whether it’s Kim and Holly who have actually experienced hair loss themselves, or Georgia and Dakota who contribute their fun energy and incredible wealth of knowledge, Lusta Hair have changed my life and for that I’m incredibly grateful.
What would your advice be to other women with hair loss?
Find that support person/people – whether that be in person, or perhaps online. I will say that it is a journey and no one can really do it for you but trust you will find what works for you and regain the confidence that you deserve. You are not alone!
