This was my biggest question before I purchased my first piece. It’s kind of scary buying your first piece. It’s an investment into yourself and your confidence, and you want to make sure you’re choosing the right investment. When you think about toppers and wigs, a lot of the time your mind goes straight to celebrities like Kylie Jenner or Nicki Minaj, who wear wigs (and sometimes toppers!) to completely change their look. Sure, they look incredible, but you just know that that isn’t their natural do.
So will your topper look natural? Well, that does depend on the piece. There’s a lot of pieces out there that don’t look like natural, real hair. One of the reasons for this, is that the piece might be made from synthetic hair. Synthetic hair is a great choice for people looking to buy at a lower-price point, and don’t mind having to replace it every few months. But, synthetic hair just can’t give that natural appearance that human hair does. Most of the time, synthetic pieces have a certain ‘shine’ to them, which is due to the silicone coating which is put on the hair.
Other than that, there are a lot of differences between human hair toppers. Some hair quality is better than others. It’s best to do your research when it comes to the brand you’re purchasing from. What grade of hair do they use? Is it 100% remy? What is the quality? Here at Lusta, we only use the finest quality 100% remy human hair, so that your piece looks completely natural. So the hair is going to look real right? But what about how it actually sits on your head? Well, we thought of that too. We wear our hair ourselves, all day, everyday. So we want to ensure all our toppers sit completely flat against your head. We want them to be absolutely undetectable to the human eye, that they are not in fact growing out of your scalp!
But that’s not all. You also need to make sure you are choosing the right piece. If you’re a blonde, and you buy a dark brunette piece, it’s obviously not going to blend into your hair and look natural. That’s why it’s important to find your right colour match (or, at least the right root match!). Shopping online means you don’t have the luxury of putting the piece on your head and seeing that it matches. That’s where virtual consults come in…
Here at Lusta, we offer FREE virtual consults so you can ask all your hair-wearing questions and find your best colour match. We don’t like to boast, but we have become absolute EXPERTS at finding your perfect colour match just through the photos you send us. We’ve helped so many women from all over the world that we’ve got it down to a fine art. If you want to find out more about consults, click HERE to watch our video.
So you purchase your piece, it’s the perfect colour, but you just can’t get it to look right? I’m not going to lie, when you first take your lovely new locks out of their box it can seem overwhelming. You plonk it on your head, turn it this way and that, and it still doesn’t look natural. Take a breath, perfecting your blend takes a bit of practice. You need a bit of time to settle in to wearing your new piece, and adjusting it to make it look like ‘you’. Once you’ve nailed your blend, you’re good to go! I’ve been wearing hair for YEARS now, and not once has someone noticed that it isn’t in fact my real hair. I worked as a high school teacher when I bought my first piece, and I remember rocking up at the school TERRIFIED the kids or other teachers would notice. I spent all day running to the bathroom to look in the mirror to make sure it was sitting right. The only comment that was made to me that first week was ‘oh, did you get a haircut’. HAHA, yes ‘hair cut’.
The thing is, you never really understand what it’s like to wear a topper until you have it on your head. It’s hard to understand how all that extra hair could really look natural on you. But once you do, there’s no looking back.
Best of luck!
