How To Make Your Topper Look More Realistic

How To Make Your Topper Look More Realistic

When I first picked up a human hair topper, I thought to myself, ‘how on earth is this thing ever going to look realistic?’ It was daunting. Purchasing human hair toppers is an investment - and you want to make sure that investment is going to work for you.

The first thing I look for in a piece is realism. Is it going to look ‘right’ on my head? Maybe I’m scarred from seeing too many men wearing bad toupees in movies 😂, but I feel like a lot of us have this impression that wearing hair is going to look fake.

Lusta toppers are designed to be the most realistic-looking hair on the market. We put a lot of work into designing caps that sit super flat against your head and blend seamlessly with your own hair. But there are things that you can do to make your piece look and feel more like you.

The first thing I always suggest is to get your piece cut to suit your face and add movement. You can get the piece cut with your own stylist. The benefit of this is you can have the piece cut specifically to your own face and head shape. Any stylist is qualified to cut toppers, but there are a few things they need to know. If you are thinking of getting your piece cut with a local stylist, click HERE to get more info. To find an experienced alternative hair stylist in your area, click HERE. Another benefit of getting your piece cut is that you can customise it to your specifications. If you’ve had bangs previously, you can have bangs cut into your topper or maybe you want the piece thinned out or some length cut off? You can make the piece look more realistic and truly feel like ‘you’ by having it cut.

When you first receive your topper that you’ve bought online, it can seem super overwhelming. The piece can become a bit ‘misshapen’ thanks to the transit, but it’s super easy to fix. Watch this video to see how you can make your topper look flat and super realistic.

Another great way to make your topper look like it really is growing out of your head is through styling! My personal favourite is this little twist style I’ve nicknamed the ‘Lusta Signature Twist’. Watch this video to see how I achieve it.

I also want to give an honourable mention to round brush blending! Only a few years ago I found out about the magic that is blending with a round brush. You can blend your hair with your topper using just about anything - a paddle brush, a comb, even your fingers! But blending with a round brush makes it sooo much easier and look even more realistic as it helps to pick up all those little baby hairs to create the most seamless blend. Give it a try! It’s magic.

Once your topper has arrived, give all of these tips and tricks a try and I promise you’ll have the most realistic topper- no one will be able to tell where your bio hair starts and the topper begins!
