Care guide

Caring for your Lusta Hair

LET's GET STARTED

Lusta-approved hair products

It's essential to choose the right products to use on your Lusta topper or wig.

Many products that are fantastic to use on your own hair can be damaging to an alternative hair piece. The below list includes some of our favourite hair products to use on toppers and wigs. It's important to note that Lusta recommends specific products within each brand.

We highly recommend ONLY using the products on this list on your Lusta piece.

Even if you have been recommended a product from another alternative hair brand or have been using another product, we recommend using ONLY the products we recommend on your Lusta piece.

If you are looking to use a different product on your Lusta, feel free to reach out to us before using it to ensure it's a Lusta-loving product.

Brands to avoid

Pantene

High levels of silicone which can strip the cuticle

Olaplex

Olaplex is protein-based and can cause breakage and shedding on human hair wigs or toppers

Head & Shoulders

This product can strip the colour from your piece

 Herbal Essences

High levels of silicone which can strip the cuticle

OGX

Can harm the quality of the hair

Do not use these products

Moroccan oil (and other oils)

Oils may be great for your bio hair, but you definitely want to skip them on your topper or wig. Oils can oxidise (change the colour) of your piece and damage the integrity of the hair.

Protein-based products

Protein is great when we're talking about bio hair, but with toppers and wigs it can break down the bond of the hair causing breakage. Skip the protein-based products (such as Olaplex).

Hair Growth or Hair Rebuilding Products

These types of products can dry out the hair causing knotting and shedding.

Bond Repair Products

These products are unnecessary for toppers and wigs and can cause knotting and tangling.

Sunscreen

Avoid your piece coming into contact with sunscreen. Especially for blondes, sunscreen can alter the colour of your wig or topper. Ensure sunscreen is fully absorbed before wearing hair.

WASHING YOUR WIG OR TOPPER

Washing Instructions

Depending on how often you wear a topper/wig determines how often you will need to wash it.

For daily use, we recommend you wash it every 2-4 weeks, depending on your level of activity. Simply fill up your sink with lukewarm water and mix a coin size amount of the shampoo into the water to create a soapy lather. Dip the topper/wig into the water, holding onto the part (silk) area to avoid tangling. Work the piece into the soapy water by dipping it in and out of the water and work the suds into the hair. Empty the sink and rinse the shampoo out with running warm water. Shampoo your piece twice if you feel it needs it. Use the same method with the conditioning process. Do not rub conditioner directly onto the scalp area or to any part of the cap as this may cause the knots to loosen over time. If your topper or wig contains any lace, be extra delicate around the lace when washing and styling etc.
