👉🏻 Tax Rebates

Who doesn’t love a nice tax return? You may be eligible for an income tax rebate on the purchase of your wig under the ATO taxation ruling TR93/34.

“Medical or surgical wigs for use by a person which is necessitated by loss of hair through sickness or disease (other than naturally occurring baldness) or the effects of the treatment of sickness or disease”

Section 159P allows a rebate for net medical expenses exceeding $1,000. Net medical expenses include a payment for a 'medical or surgical
appliance' prescribed by a legally qualified medical practitioner.

Get in touch with your accountant on how to claim your tax rebate!

👉🏻 Private Health Insurance

Get in touch with your private health insurer! It pays to check out your coverage. Some Health Funds provide a rebate for medical purposes such as Alopecia, Trichotillomania, and Chemotherapy. We can give you a tax invoice that you can be provided to your private health fund.

👉🏻 Government Subsidies

South Australia

The Department of Human Services (DHS) equipment program provides funding for wigs.

For further information or to check eligibility:

State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) may provide financial assistance with a human hair wig. This can take 3-6 months.

New South Wales

Enable NSW can fund a maximum of $2000 for a human hair wig, once every three years. An application and a referral from your doctor are required.
